Confused about application context

I have a service that is opened by an Activity for the purposes of
managing a SQLite database the service is passed the application
context when binding...
serviceIntent = new Intent(getApplicationContext() ,
DatabaseService.class);
bindService(serviceIntent, mConnection, Context.BIND_AUTO_CREATE);
The service is unbound in onPause
anyone got success with integrating facebook login with android app using fbconnect api

hey experts. I want to implement facebook login functionality using
fbconnect api and its not working. if any1 had experience with
fbconnect api [ [link] ]
for android then kindly help me out.
The problem is i tried to run the sample project given in its
downloads. even after inserting the api key and secret key of facebook
AVD issue with Android 1.1

I installed the ADT 0.9.6 recently and updated my SDK to the new
elements available. I created an AVD with 2.1 as the target and it
works fine. Created an AVD with 1.1 as the target and the emulator
starts and it starts to load but hangs on the Android start screen
Anyone else have this problem?

Does anyone know if there's a way to tell MediaPlayer to authenticate
with an HTTP source (login/pass)? Setting an Authenticator in the code
doesn't seem to do it.
alertdialog and flashing status bar

We have an application that uses full-screen...the status bar is hidden.
However, when we put up an alert dialog, the status bar flashes for a
moment, but then is gone.
Looks a little strange.
If I make custom layouts/dialogs the flashing goes away...is that the
only way to clear the flash
or does somebody have another idea?

I need location updates in a widget.
The code below hangs in the emulator. Even if I change lat in emulator-
control, it stays hung.
Aside: The code works in a normal app.
Any help appreciated!

I tried to use Google map API. But its giving error on following
lines.
1) when i import this package -- (import
com.google.android.maps.MapVie w) it give error and ask to make a class

Video splitter

I want to create a video splitter that uses the videos that reside on
the SD card and lets you split the video and store as separate files
on the SD Card. Are there any APIs to enable this or I would need to
use something like ffmpeg?

Is there an easy way to embed a button inside a map view?
I have been able to create a button above and below and alongside a mapview,
but I can't seem to plunk it inside.
I would like the mapview to use the whole screen.

Is there anyway to have both:
@Override
public boolean onTap(GeoPoint p, MapView mapView)
@Override
protected boolean onTap(int index)
I want to be able to detect if a user has tapped a previously selected GeoPoint.
I guess I could do some kind of ugly lat/lon compare in a list..
If I have both of those onTaps ... only the first one is ever called.

I have a new problem with my android application...
My application works on the emulator thus I try to test her on the
telephone (samsung galaxy). The application is installed well but when
she is launched it stays permanently on my welcome screen, in fact she

Spinner not displaying the selectedItem

I am doing a map application and would like to put more than just a
'star' or a 'pin' on the map when it is selected.
Is it possible to make a drawable icon, and shove some text into it?
That way I could have a bit of info and the location tagged.
